Pyromellitic dianhydride (PMDA, CAS 89-32-7), referred to as maleic anhydride, is a white or yellowish crystal. Exposed to humid air, it will quickly absorb water in the air and hydrolyze into pyromellitic acid. Soluble in dimethyl sulfoxide, dimethylformamide, acetone and other organic solvents, insoluble in ether, chloroform and benzene. It is mainly used as the raw material of polyimide, curing matting agent of epoxy resin and crosslinking agent of polyester resin.
