Application of CHAPS CAS 75621-03-3
CHAPS is a non-denaturing zwitterionic detergent used in membrane biochemistry. It can be used to solubilize membrane proteins and break protein-protein interactions. CHAPS has a low micelle molecular weight (6,150) and a high critical micelle concentration (6-10 mM), so it can be removed from the sample by dialysis. Chemicalbook It is also suitable for solubilizing proteins in isoelectric focusing and two-dimensional electrophoresis. CHAPS is often used for non-denaturing (no urea) isoelectric focusing, and it has been found to have excellent resolution for certain subcellular preparations and vegetable proteins. Usually a concentration between 2-4% (w/v) is used for isoelectric focusing gels.
