Methyl lactate CAS 547-64-8 is a colorless clear liquid, completely miscible with water and most organic liquids. It is considered as a green solvent as it is easily biodegradable. It is a solvent for nitrocellulose, cellulase acetate, cellulase acetobutyrote and cellulase acetaprapionate. It is used in the manufacture of lacquers and dopes where it contributes high tolerance for diluents, good flaw and blush resistance

Application

1. Used as a pharmaceutical intermediates.

Bio-solvents are progressively replacing petrochemical solvents and ethyl lactate serves as a biodegradable and non-toxic solvent which is sought after especially in the field of microelectronics and complies with the quality demands of the semiconductor industry.

3. Methyl lactate is one active compound of a chiral intermediate; it is use in pesticide and fine chemistry.

Greases are easily dissolved in L-methyl lactate so that it can be used in various surfaces cleaning processes. 

4. It is also an excellent solvent in dairy chemistry.
